Fishing Report 24-30th March 2007

Well the mild spring here is certainly having a major influence on the trout it seems. Everwhere trout are moving well up in the water on most days.

Carsington Water opened on Saturday 24th and catches over the weekend were excellent. Browns to over 4lbs and a new rainbow trout record of 6lbs were recorded along with spectacular catches by some anglers. Catches during the week have been steady. Don't just think sinking lines here, the new stocking policy with rainbows will change the fishing. Some of the best catches this week have been made on floating lines and buzzers (we certainly caught doing this).

Again fishing has been good, with some nice rainbows landed. I've been mainly doing beginners tuition days this week, with anglers enjoying an average of 3 trout between 2-5lbs. Good going for 1st day fly fishing and best of all, happy anglers all round!

Willington also opened last weekend. Plenty of fish moving here and anglers reported good sport on buzzers and bloodworm. If we get a warm settled spell the big buzzer hatch will kick in and dry fly is just amazing then!

Key points for this week are the brown trout season opens our chalkstream fishing on 1st April and you need to renew rod licences by the same date. I have bookings on both river and lake next week and look forward to hooking clients up to some nice browns. I'm also anticipating the river fishing eagerly, with the rivers in such fine condition good fishing is assured this season!

Tight Lines
