Midlands Fly Fishing Lessons & Casting Tuition
Whether you want to start fly fishing, are looking to improve existing skills or need a new challenge, professional fly fishing tuition with qualified instructor Steve Yeomans is a great investment which will take your fishing to another level. Tuition is available on a 1-to-1 basis for hourly lessons, half days, full days and 2-3 day short breaks, meeting the needs of beginners and more experienced anglers no matter how tight your schedule. Alternatively, you may wish to share your lesson or break with friends, family or colleagues, which we are happy to accommodate. All prices shown are inclusive of fishing fees and any equipment you need is provided free.
Unlike many UK instructors, Steve is a full time professional, so you can be sure of a quality service, up to date advice and value for money. We operate 12 months of the year, 7 days per week, with tuition packages geared to both stillwater and river fly fishing.
Venues set in picturesque countryside, provide a perfect environment in which to learn new skills, improve and unwind. Locations in Staffordshire, Shropshire, Derbyshire and Gloucestershire's Cotswolds Water Park, mean a lake or river within 1 hour's travel of most Midlands counties and the cities of Manchester, Birmingham, London & Oxford to name a few. Beginners Fly Fishing Tuition
Designed for beginners, the aim of this course is simple, enable you to go fly fishing! Personal tuition in an ideal environment means you actively learn new skills on the water, enabling you to go fishing confidently and catch trout. Your itinterary includes: -
- Equipment, setting up & fly selection
- Basic overhead cast & roll cast techniques
- Watercraft & safety
- Effective fishing techniques to get you started.
Price is £ 150 per day or £ 100 half day for 1 angler. Fees for additional people are £ 50 per extra person. So sharing the day with friends is not only a great way to enjoy your day, it also means you share the costs!
Casting Lessons
Good fly casting skills are one of the key aspects in presenting a fly well, helping you fish efficiently, effectively and enjoyably. Tuition options cover techniques for trout, pike & saltwater including: -
- Basic overhead fly cast
- Handling strong winds & big flies
- Single and double haul techniques
- Roll casting techniques
- Advanced presentation casts for river & lake
Price per hour £ 25 for 1 person, an additional £ 10 per hour is payable per extra person.
Fly Fishing Lessons for Intermediate & Advanced Skill Levels

Stillwaters
Skills for small and large waters from boat and bank. Typically we review equipment, casting skills and introduce new casts. We look at boosting catches through watercraft, entomology, imitative & attractor techniques with dry fly, nymph and lure. Lessons are tailored to your own needs, so feel free to call us and discuss.
Rivers
Often thought more demanding of an angler, rivers require a different skill set to stillwaters. We cover key areas of your setup, casting skills for rivers, the importance of presentation and getting it right, watercraft to locate trout in river lies, entomology to identify what trout are feeding on and when, the latest dry/wet fly and nymphing techniques to help you fish better and catch more.
Prices are £ 150 full day or £ 100 half day for 1 angler. Fees for additional people are £ 50 per person.
